Because of your continued support of YWCA of Rockford, we are able to help
more women in our community everyday. And because you share so much with us,
we wanted to take the time to share our new national brand with you.
As you well know, the YWCA has always been dedicated to empowering women.
This will not change. However, we also have a lesser-known—but equally
important—goal: the goal to eliminate racism.
While launching the YWCA around the world in the late 1800s, women of the
YWCA USA recognized the harsh reality of racism in America was denying
millions their rights and freedoms based upon gender and ethnicity. In 1915,
the YW held the first interracial conference in the southern states of the
U.S. and seven years later, voted to hold national conferences only in
places that accepted members without segregation or discrimination.
Today, we emphasize the need to eliminate racism, along with our well-known
goal of empowering women. Whether it be preparing our children to prosper in
a multicultural world or working directly to eliminate racism in our
community, we will achieve our goals thanks to you and your generosity.
While our existing programs won’t change, the new brand will bring exciting
changes to the YWCA of Rockford. In the coming months we hope to include
more programs that speak to our mission and can make a difference in our
community.
As a vibrant force serving more than 25 million women and girls in more than
110 nations each year, the YWCA continues to address the needs that impact
women and eliminate racism throughout the world. And we sincerely appreciate
your help as we enrich our work. If you have any questions, please don’t
hesitate to contact us.
