for Sports
|
|
While attending Jr. High in Rockford, Janet Lynn became Rockford's
second Olympic athlete as she competed and finished 9th in Grenoble
France. She went on to become Rockford's first medallist as she won
the Bronze Medal in Sopporo, Japan. She was the US Women's National
Figure Skating Champion 5 times. In 1973, she became a professional
skater with the Ice Follies, which made her the highest paid female
athlete in the world. In 1994 she was inducted into the United States
Figure Skating Hall of Fame. Her pure joy of skating was admired by
all who had the privilege to see her perform. This award is presented
to a female athlete or to a woman who has promoted athletics.
